January 26 Resident Evil 5 Demo is Live...Featuring local and LIVE co-op play! Go for it...
Please note that you may have to browse for the demo by title as I don't think the new releases folder has updated yet. January 20 Marketplace Update - 20/01In a meeting and shouldn't be doing this so just a quick one...
Remember you can purchase and queue up this content - and any piece of content on Marketplace - by using Xbox LIVE Marketplace on Xbox.com. January 19 Console Monster iPhone Achievement Guide: Gs On The Go!I love my iTouch. I fetishise it. It's a thing of great, wondrous and mystical beauty. And I particularly like a bit of App muck-aboutage, so I was really interested when my pal Anthony at quality multi-platform site Console Monster told me that they were working on an App that listed all Achievements for over 400 Xbox 360 games. And some other weird things called Trophies, whatever they are.
Called Console Monster Console Guide, it's simple and effective - you browse for the game you want to check the Gs on and you get the full list of Achievements complete with icon. The interface is well slick too, I'm very impressed.
Since I tend to obsess a bit over Achievements for whatever game I'm playing (I ususally sit down to play a game with a particular Achievement in mind) and I tend to do that while I'm away from the console, this App makes me smile like a meerkat with binoculars.
My only tiny criticism would be that it doesn't list secret Achievements (DAMN YOU SECRET ACHIEVEMENTS!) but then that seems to be the case with most Achievement listing sites.
That aside, check the App out - you can find it in the App store as you'd expect (it'll cost you 59p) and if you want to read more check out Console Monster itself.
Oh, and yes - I did Tweet about this! Putting the 'Twit' In 'Twitter'So I'm in two minds about Twitter. Part of me thinks, 'Who gives a monkey's about what I happen to be thinking about chow mein at 3.43 on a Tuesday?'. And another part of me - the part that tends to read about DIGITAL TRENDS and HOT ONLINE PHENOMENONS - thinks that it's the future of micro-communication in a world rendered asunder by the alienating influence of technology. And also a good way to tell people that my cat just fell off the sofa.
I'm undecided, and that's why although I opened a Twitter account about 18 months ago I've only used it 4 times. Those Tweets were, and I quote:
I like the one about the eggs most. In all seriousness, Twitter can be really good if used for a purpose. I like the way Major Nelson offers micro-updates and quick heads-ups that complement his blog posts, and I've heard the examples of the Tweets that came out of Mumbai during the recent terrorist attacks and were informing the world of what was going on, or the use of it to commentate on sports or whatever. However, I'm really not into this idea of broadcasting every little thing I'm doing - or particularly interested in every little thing my mates are doing. It's a bit like those people on Facebook who update their status with things like '...has just arrived at work'. Really? OH MY GOD! That's wild, thanks for letting me know etc. THAT SAID, I was talking to some clever marketing people last week who were telling me that Twitter has reached critical mass in the US and is about to explode in the UK and Europe. AND apparently 68 people want to follow me on Twitter (which is slightly unsettling but also quite nice in a way) so I'm going to make a concerted effort to do it. I guess I'll try to keep it 50/50 in terms of Xbox-related stuff and random personal nonsense and see how it goes. I know, I'm very brave. If you have any sort of interest in following me on Twitter (and I don't blame you if you don't) then you can find me here. Just don't be surprised if I post a couple of times about Pot Noodles and then drop off for another 6 months... Marketplace Update - 19/01Well, I say Marketplace Update. There's actually nothing new up today, so instead I thought I'd make sure that you knew about the stuff that went up on Friday. Don't thank me - it's in my nature to give. As always you can head straight to the Xbox LIVE Marketplace section on Xbox.com to purchase and/or queue up this stuff to download.
Did you see the score in the Aberdeen - Celtic game yesterday? What a result! I was going off my nut. Europe here we come (again!). January 13 Marketplace Update - 13/01Busy day, finally getting around to posting the MP update! Remember that if you like to live life on the cutting edge of connectivity you can purchase and queue up any of this content RIGHT NOW on Xbox.com - just head to the Marketplace on Xbox.com front page to find the content you want!
FIFA 09 Live Season Price DropsIf you're a footy fan you'll know that the transfer window is open and the wheeling and dealing is in full swing - or not, given that the credit crunch has even hit Russian multi-billionaires. Or you support Aberdeen. The only transfer happening there is that they're getting a new bloke in to sell Pittodrie pies. Anyway! To celebrate the transfer MADNESS EA is dropping the price of the FIFA 09 Live Season PDLC. The price drops will go live from 9am UK time on Thursday January 15. This mode will update your game on a weekly basis with player stats based on the performance of players in the real-world (dangerous if you're a Chelsea fan this week...), so you know you're copy of FIFA will always be as up to date as possible. The individual leagues (English Barclay's Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga and Mexican Primera Division will drop from 560 MS Points to 420 MS Points. And the bundle of all six leagues will drop from 1600 MS Points to 1200 MS Points. Remember, all price drops will be active from 9am UK Time on Thursday, 15 January! January 12 Marketplace Update - 12/01So I 'accidentally' completed Fallout 3 last night. Have you ever done that? I did it on Mass Effect too - I inadvertantly kick-started the last mission of the game and before I know it the credits are rolling and I can't do any more side quests... Luckily I've got a slightly earlier save so that I can go back and spend more time exploring and mucking around, so it's all good.
Not an awful lot happening today, but remember Knothole Island for Fable II is out tomorrow!
Remember that you can get a list of new Marketplace content - and click through to buy it and queue it up for download - at the Marketplace on Xbox.com Games homepage. January 09 Marketplace Update - 09/01Have you been keeping up with the Xbox news from CES 2009? Kotaku has a nice litte round-up. Good to hear we're getting a Halo Wars demo on February 5, that Kodu thing is looking good (I have to admit I hadn't heard about it at all until now), and good to hear Primetime mentioned too...
Today's quite quiet on Marketplace so since I didn't have time to post over the last couple of days I've added the key stuff. Fable II's Knothole Island expansion is out on Tuesday, by the way...
January 06 Marketplace Update - 6/1So a Mr Dave Burns posted a comment on yesterday's update saying that Major Nelson has a wicked new feature on his site - it seems to be an automated Marketplace content updater that links clean through to the content on Xbox.com. You can try it out here: http://m.majornelson.com but bear in mind that it's still in beta so you may spot some bugs and discrepencies. I'm going to ask Major what the deal is, but this looks awesome and is definitely what we've been waiting for.
In the meantime, here's your web 1.0 Marketplace update...
Remember that you can get a list of new Marketplace content - and click through to buy it and queue it up for download - at the Marketplace on Xbox.com Games homepage. I checked my Fallout 3 play time last night - 38 hours and counting, and I still absolutely LOVE it... January 05 Marketplace Update - 5/1 - HAPPY NEW YEAR EDITIONHappy happy happy new year! I hope you had an amazing Christmas (or whatever you choose to celebrate - personally I like to jiggle around a pile of stones with my nips painted blue) and a brilliant Hogmanay. Being around lots of family and friends meant that I didn't have any time to play Fallout 3 or Dead Space or any of the other anti-social games I've been playing, but I did get in plenty of GHWT, RB2 and LIPS. Especially loving GHWT's Battle of the Bands mode over Xbox LIVE, that's quality!
What were you playing and what did you get for your Christmas? I got an acoustic guitar so I better start spending time on it rather than GHWT / RB...
Now, I was planning to kick off the new year with a hefty Marketplace update but, er, nothing went up today in Europe. So instead I thought I would pick out some of the best stuff that went live over the break just in case you missed 'em. Oh, and one other thing - a few people have requested that I deep link directly to the content on Xbox.com, but I have to be brutally honest and say that I just don't have the time. It's not so bad if there are two or three pieces of content, but on the days when there are 10-15 it would be an absolute nightmare. HOWEVER if you bookmark the Marketplace on Xbox.com front page there's a dynamically updated list of content there, so that should make your journey a little quicker. I'll continue to post that link at the end of each update.
Remember to check out the Marketplace on Xbox.com Game Content front page to get links to this stuff! So why don't we share our New Year's Resolutions? Here are mine:
That'll do I think. Don't want to go daft. Oh, one last nice thing if you're in the UK and Ireland - Batman: The Dark Knight will be on Video Marketplace from Wednesday! Well chuffed about that as I haven't seen it yet... |
